Barns Green start their 2023/2024 campaign with a home game against strong rivals Ditchling RFC.
It's been a long pre-season and with the postponement of their game against Jersey, the men in green and gold have had to wait an extra week to get going. After a strong season last year, Barns Green will be looking to push for the top spot and with some new faces in the squad and strong coaching from Kieron Martin then they have every right to dream of success.
Whilst Barns Green took a week off, Ditchling were busy making a mark on the league. Against Steyning, they ran out 73 - 7 winners which sent a clear message of intent to the rest of the teams who are going to face them.
If we look back to last season for any idea of what tomorrow may bring it won't give you much of an idea. Both teams shared a victory each with Barns Green convincingly winning at home 49 - 5 however in the rain on the Horsham AGP, Ditchling were 12 - 7 victors in a close fought contest.
A win for both teams will be massive. For Ditchling, it will further cement their intent on the league with a win another win against a close rival however, a win for Barns Green will open the league up and send message to the rest of the teams of their own intent.
This game could go either way and Ditchling will no doubt be full of confidence however, Barns Green will be eager to get going and start their campaign off with a bang on the Field of Dreams in front of the VPs who will be out in force.
