Barns Green start their second stage of the season against Worthing Azurians on Saturday at The Rugby Park.
The last time the two faced off, it was in challenging conditions with heavy rain and slow underfoot. Barns Green came away with a narrow 12 - 0 victory that day, beginning a 6 game unbeaten run finishing top of the table with a final week win against Steyning. Worthing went on an equally impressive win, scoring a total of 232 points in 3 games and only letting in 12 over their own line finishing 2nd in the table to join Barns Green in Sussex 2 Premier.
Barns Green will welcome back Joe Serna and Matt Sprigge from injury. Serna picked up a shoulder tear in pre-season and is yet to play for the Green and Gold since returning back from his stint at Pulborough. Sprigge is also returning from a minor tear which he picked up in the opening minutes of the Crawley game in October.
Worthing has the advantage of having already played a game in Sussex 2 Premier in December although it was a 14-53 loss to title contenders Shoreham at home. On the other hand, Barns Green hasn't played since their 21-10 win against Steyning in November after their first two games were called off due to a rise in Covid cases.
Barns Green will be eager to get their season off to a winning start and will be chomping at the bit for a tough and physical match-up. Worthing will no doubt be equally as keen to respond to their loss against Shoreham so it is going to be an exciting and hard-fought game.
The game kicks off at 2 pm at The Rugby Park in Worthing.
