Barns Green hosted the 10th Annual Si Viney Tag Tournament this year, the first time in two years due to Covid.
Guy Viney set up the tag tournament in memory of his late son Simon Viney. Each year they raise money for the brilliant Wooden Spoon children's charity who are a grant-making charity and fund life-changing projects across the UK & Ireland.
Ten mixed teams came together and competed for ultimate glory in what has become a firm favorite in the community. It was fantastic to see so many people compete in the wonderful event with nearly all generations represented at times on the pitch.
Families descended on the green pitching up their own deck chairs and tents to watch the entertainment unfold whilst being suitably refreshed by the ice cream truck, BBQ, and bar.
Lots of fantastic prizes were donated to the raffle and auction including a signed James Haskell shirt, a signed Harlequins shirt by the current team, helicopter rides, and brewery tours to name a few.
It was an emotional end as Guy announced he would be passing the baton over to the rugby club to organize next year. In honor of his service to the tournament and charity, Guy was presented with a special tournament shirt to mark the occasion and cap the day off in the perfect way.
We look forward to next year's event and many more to come after that.
